Gold and platinum credit cards available currently.
Gold and Platinum Cards Gold and platinum credit cards represent the elite credit cards, and usually these are not only indicators of status but a higher income and credit limit as well. The unfortunate part to these credit cards is that they also come with a much higher annual fee than many other types of credit cards. A credit consumer considering gold and platinum cards will naturally require an adequate income to qualify but also they will probably want a specific purpose for the card before deciding if the credit card is worth the annual fee. For instance, a consumer who purchases minor items infrequently on their credit cards may find a higher credit limit is simply not worth the higher annual fee charged by these cards. In addition, the credit limit differences between gold cards and platinum cards may be relatively small with some companies. This is important to verify first, as the annual fees will usually be much higher for a platinum card as opposed to a gold or standard card. On the other hand, the consumer who makes major purchases with their credit card may well benefit from the higher credit limits present on gold or platinum credit cards and the annual fee will be a significant factor for those credit consumers. At one time platinum credit cards were so exclusive that a consumer had to have an “invitation” in order to obtain one. These days the income requirements may be much laxer and many more people can apply and qualify for these credit cards. In addition to the higher credit limits represented by the gold and platinum credit cards, many companies have begun to offer “exclusive” extras to holders of these cards. Sometimes these benefits can make a gold or platinum credit card more valuable to the consumer and even save money despite the increased annual fee. Such extras available as shopper protection, which may extend the store or manufacturer’s warranty up to a year on products purchased with the card, can add a lot of value to the consumer who often purchases electronics or household goods on their card. Satisfaction guarantees may be included where if a product purchased with the card can be guaranteed up to 60 days after purchase. These may seem like minor extras but to some consumers the extras make the gold or platinum card annual fees well worth it in terms of protection from loss, breakage or theft. One final item that should be mentioned is that a consumer who spends little on their credit card may sometimes opt for the higher limit gold or platinum credit cards simply as an emergency line of credit. This may be useful for some consumers who never know when an emergency might come up; on the other hand, a bank loan is usually much less expensive. Like all credit card choices, the Gold and Platinum credit cards are meant to suit certain incomes, certain spending habits and to provide benefits that other cards may not provide. Higher credit limits are not the only reasons a consumer may choose to use a gold or platinum credit card.
